Athleticism:

A great athlete for a linebacker. A bit undersized but makes up for it with his speed and physicality. Can make plays sideline-to-sideline. Very fluid and does a good job of flowing towards the ball. Has great range and can prevent most running backs from turning the corner.

Grade: 4.0

Instincts:

Great read and react linebacker. Will see his keys and react quickly. Doesn’t make many mistakes but will be slow to react or take false steps on occasion, however, has the speed to quickly recover. Stays at home on most play action fakes and does a good job of keeping contain on the outside.

Grade: 4.0

Point of Attack:

Undersized but holds his own inside. Not afraid to take on blockers head on. Has an uncanny ability to slip through blocks and filter through the trash inside. Will occasionally be knocked off balance simply because he isn’t bi and strong enough. Takes good angles in pursuit and chases plays down from the backside.

Grade: 3.0

Coverage:

Excellent coverage linebacker due to his athleticism and fluidity. Can stick with most backs and tight ends. Shows the ability to make plays on the ball as he sticks his inside hand out to knock the ball away. Can stick with most tight ends in man coverage but can be out-muscled at times. Has to clean up his footwork as he’ll stumble occasionally.

Grade: 3.5

Pass Rush:

Blitzed quite a bit but usually has a teammate clearing the hole before he gets into the backfield. Has a terrific closing burst and can force quarterbacks into making poor decisions. Does a great job of breaking down and not being fooled by evasive moves. Lacks the strength to routinely threaten off the edge but plays with good leverage and has a good motor to free himself off blocks.

Grade: 2.5

Tackling:

Good wrap-up tackler who delivers a pop on his hits. Rarely lets players out of his grasp once he closes in. However, does fail to breakdown at times and shiftier backs can elude him. Struggles a bit inside as he lacks the strength to tackle with just his off-hand when fighting off a block. Also has a knack for stripping the ball.

Grade: 3.0

Intangibles:

Went through junior college due to academic difficulties. However, on-field intelligence and off-field intelligence are two separate things. Regarded as a hard worker with a terrific character and has received nothing but praise from his coaches about his preparation and competitiveness. Is a tad bit small but plays hard. Would be best fit outside in the 4-3 ideally on the weak side. A linebacker who should excel in nickle packages and be a 3-down ‘backer in the NFL.

Grade: 4.5

Outlook:

David might not be coveted by scouts simply because he’ll weigh in at around only 225 pounds. However, he’s a terrific linebacker with great instincts and athleticism. He’s a high character guy who you want to have in your locker room. Should make a terrific 4-3 outside linebacker.
