Pass Blocking:
An average at best pass blocker right now and his strength is clearly in the run game. Can be slow off the snap and doesn’t display the quickness in pass protection that he does when he fires off the line against the run. Needs to get stronger as he struggles to consistently anchor and can be driven back when giving up leverage. Not a terrific athlete and can be beaten by speed. Sustains his blocks fairly well but struggles when asked to pick up blitzers or block on the move.
Grade: 2.0
Run Blocking:
Again, not overly strong or powerful but is quick off the snap and plays with great leverage. Able to consistently get a push off the snap. Uses his hands well to control defenders and rarely slips off blocks when working in-line. Will get stood up if he gets too high because he lacks the strength to simply bully guys around, so technique is key for him. Has some difficulty hitting targets at the second level where he is prone to over-extending and failing to make contact.
Grade: 3.5
Mobility:
Not the greatest athlete. Show good quickness initially but isn’t fluid in space. Struggles to make contact when pulling or blocking at the second level. Lacks the lateral agility to really excel in pass protection and it also hurts him in space.
Grade: 2.0
Technique:
Relies heavily on good technique to be successful. Lacks great pure strength but makes up for it by playing with excellent leverage. Is quick to latch onto defensive players and does a good job of sustaining his blocks. Has a natural knee bend and it allows him to be flexible when pass-blocking.
Grade: 3.5
Mean Streak:
Doesn’t have much of a mean streak and you’ll rarely see him do any “nasty” stuff. Blocks what’s in front of him and does it quite well. However, isn’t the type of guy to actively search for blocks or block right till the whistle and then some. Could definitely stand to be a little bit meaner on the field.
Grade: 2.0
Intangibles:
A 3 year starter on Wisconsin’s heralded offensive line. A hard worker and it shows in his game. A technician who has succeeded despite his less than stellar athleticism. Missed the first 4 games of the 2010 season due to a high ankle sprain. Has no known off-field issues or character concerns.
Grade: 3.0
Outlook:
Zeitler is a technician who has succeeded in college but might disappoint if he was forced to start as a rookie. His lack of strength and great athleticism will eventually catch up to him and because of that his upside is limited. I still think he can be a starter, but he’ll need some maturing before he can be a consistent, dependable starter. I think the thought of him being a late 1st rounder is a stretch. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I know I certainly wouldn’t draft him that high.
