Athleticism:

An impressive looking tight end who is on the small side but is very muscular. Looks like a jacked wide receiver. Possesses great athletic ability and might be the most athletic tight end in this class. Has an elite burst for a tight end and is quick to get into his routes. Has the speed to be a threat down the seam of defenses. Lacks top end speed but still very impressive for a tight end and can separate with his burst.

Grade: 4.0

Hands:

Has a solid pair of hands and consistently shows he can pluck balls outside of his frame. He demonstrates above average body control and he’s good at adjusting to poor passes. However, has some problems with drops, particularly in traffic. He tends to let balls into his body when working through traffic which increases the chance of a drop. Fans can get frustrated with his ability to make tough catches and then drop relatively easy ones.

Grade: 3.0

Route Running:

Raw as a route runner. Rounds off a lot of his routes and doesn’t always get the correct depth. However, has the explosiveness to consistently create separation and can stretch the field. Doesn’t have trouble separating from most linebackers. Must work on making crisp cuts and not selling his routes.

Grade: 2.5

Blocking:

Although undersized, not bad as a blocker. Gives good effort. Will fire off the snap and try to get leverage. However, lacks the strength through his lower body to consistently generate a push. Has a tendency to hold players and must place his hands better to avoid penalties. Will whiff on blocks in space despite his athleticism and makes me question his awareness. Won’t ever excel as an in-line blocker but is perfect for an H-Back type role. Is effective when asked to seal and can be effective due to his athleticism and range.

Grade: 2.5

Intangibles:

A 3 year starter who started right away in his freshman season and was named to the Freshman All-American 1st Team. Has not missed a game due to injury and has no known off-field issues. In fact, regarded as a great leader and a high character player. Hard worker in the classroom and the weight room. Is part of the new breed of tight ends taking over the NFL. Can play in the slot and be successful. Similar player to Aaron Hernandez and can play in that role.

Grade: 5.0

Outlook:

Orson Charles is an undersized but athletic tight end who will fit in with the new role of receiving tight ends. Guys who can play in the slot and stretch the field. He’s perfect for that role as he has good range and solid hands. He’s a surprisingly good blocker as well, although he’ll never be a true in-line tight end. However, he’s a weapon who could exploit mismatches and turn into a very good receiving option. Worthy of a late 1st round pick.

Pass Blocking:

Very nimble athlete with good foot speed. Did not look out of place at all playing left tackle at Georgia this year despite his massive size. Gets into his stance quickly and shows surprising agility. Has long arms that he uses to engage defensive lineman and keep them off his body. Very powerful anchor and despite playing a bit high at times can still recover to hold his ground. Gets a little sloppy with his hands and will occasionally hug defenders. Leads to him not being able to sustain his blocks and could draw some holding penalties. Not elite off the line and can be beaten by more explosive players which hurts his ability to be an elite left tackle in the NFL.

Grade: 4.0

Run Blocking:

A true mauler who blocks till the whistle. Gets upright too quickly off the snap and hinders his ability to really drive defenders back. However, shows the ability to effectively control his man and take him out of the play. Bends at the waist a little too much and this hurts him when trying to block at the second level and it limits the time he can engage defenders. Needs to do a better job of keeping his feet pumping when locked on. When he gets everything right though he can toy with defenders.

Grade: 3.0

Mobility:

Is very athletic for his size with good foot speed and overall athleticism. Looks good when pulling and is very effective at leading through the hole. Can be a bit sloppy when in space as he reaches and bends at the waist and will whiff on blocks. However, more than adequate once he reaches the 2nd level and can seal off linebackers well.

Grade: 3.0

Technique:

Glenn has all the tools but he gets sloppy with his technique. Most of this is correctable though. He has a solid knee bend but does have a tendency to bend at the waist, especially when run blocking. Can get a little sloppy with his hand placement at times. Gets upright too quickly off the line when run blocking and can occasionally whiff on blocks. Has good footwork and shows the ability to engage and control his man with ease. Can be slow to react to the snap count. Overall, has some issues but should improve with coaching.

Grade: 2.0

Mean Streak:

I think if someone asked me what having a “mean streak” was I’d show them some Cordy Glenn film to explain. Absolutely does not stop blocking till the whistle and will punish anyone that gets in his way. Will knock defenders to the ground and make sure they stay down. Not afraid to mix it up with lineman and will throw in a couple of extra shots. I haven’t seen him do anything dumb yet but with the flopping in the NFL nowadays, he could see a couple of late hit penalties.

Grade: 5.0

Intangibles:

4 year starter in the tough SEC. Is very versatile and can, and has, played multiple positions. Has the footwork and athleticism to play outside at tackle, even on the left side, but has the size and strength to be a great guard as well. Has an outstanding motor and doesn’t stop blocking until the whistle is blown. Has no major injury concerns and no known off-field issues.

Grade: 4.0

Outlook:

Glenn has some technique issues that he has to clean up but that’s what training camp and off-season workouts are for. When you look at him as a whole he is a very impressive prospect. Not many guys that are 6’6 and nearly 350 pounds can move as well as he can. He’s got the footwork and length that makes me think he can play tackle in the NFL. While he’ll likely start out on the right side, he can play left tackle in a pinch and do it quite well. He’s also versatile enough to play inside at guard. However, right now his strengths are more as a pass blocker than run blocker and it’s why I think he’ll be better at tackle. If he does clean up his technique he can pretty much play anywhere. He has tremendous potential, think almost Ogden-esque.

Kris Durham Scouting Report

Stats

2010 – 32 catches, 659 yards, 20.6 avg, 3 TD’s

2007 – 11 catches, 169 yards, 15.4 avg
2006 – 8 catches, 82 yards, 10.3 avg

Overview:

Kris Durham is a nice sleeper option in the late rounds. He’s big and is surprisingly quick for his size. He can challenge defenses down field but he is also the poster boy for possession receivers. He’ll go up and make tough grabs in traffic and isn’t afraid to work over the middle. He reminds me a lot of former Falcon Brian Finneran with more athleticism. For a couple of years Finneran was Vick’s go to guy and was a reliable receiver. I can’t see Durham being worse than him.

2008 – 56 catches, 963 yards, 17.2 avg, 8 TD’s

Overview:

A.J. Green may be the best receiver since Calvin Johnson to be drafted. Green has an outstanding mix of height and speed and can pretty much catch anything thrown his way. He’ll be a dangerous player in the NFL and should translate his game to the pros quickly and easily.

Scouting Report:

Justin Houston Scouting Report

Justin Houston

Height: 6’3
Weight: 270
College: Georgia
40 Time: 4.62
Class: Junior
Stock:
Projected: 1st-2nd Round

Stats

2010 – 67 tackles, 19.5 TFL, 11.0 sacks
2009 – 38 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks
2008 – 19 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks

Overview:

Justin Houston is an interesting prospect because many have him listed as a 3-4 OLB but I think he would be terrible in a 3-4 scheme. He’s at his best with his hand on the ground and despite playing in a “3-4″ he rarely dropped back in coverage in a game and only a handful of times rushed out of a 2 point stance. He’s a great athlete with an outstanding burst that can terrorize OT’s at the next level. However, he needs to use his hands better and develop more pass-rush moves because he won’t get by on just athleticism. His learning curve is much higher and he may struggle to make the transition at first. He’s the type of guy that has to put in a lot of work to make it in the NFL.

Scouting Report:

Positives

- Great size
- Terrific athlete
- Very productive in the SEC
- Great burst off the line
- Can dominate tackles with his quickness
- Shows the ability to be violent with his hands and disengage
- Great upper body strength
- Gets low and has a nice shoulder dip
- Has the flexibility to turn the corner
- Generally has good awareness and he does a good job keeping contain
- Flows down the line well to meet the running back
- Explosive tackler
- Rarely misses and delivers some punishing hits
- Leader
- Has a lot of potential as a 4-3 RDE

Negatives

- NOT an OLB
- More explosive rushing with his hand on the ground
- Very raw in coverage and wouldn’t excel in that area
- Limited potential in a 3-4 scheme
- Motor is very inconsistent
- Will give up on plays that don’t go towards him
- Takes himself out of the play at times because he rushes too far up field
- Needs to be more consistent getting off blocks, though he has the ability
- Needs to develop more pass rush moves, currently only has the speed rush
- Suspended for first 2 games of 2009 season for violating team rules
